Are you up for changing your life?
Starting a new business will bring inevitable change &, if you are looking to ‘change your life,’ then you must accept that this will involve some ‘change!’ Sounds obvious, I know, but as the saying goes ’you can’t make an omelette without breaking some eggs’.
Embracing change & facing up to new challenges is a romantic image that we all like to fantasize about. We like to read about it in books & watch it in movies & picture ourselves as the hero or heroine taking on these new challenges. However, when it comes to reality, we are all different. We don’t all deal with change in the same way.
There is something very comforting about ‘the thought’ of doing something. It is nice to daydream & imagine how perfect the holiday or wedding will be, or how successful our new business will be. It is sometimes tempting to let things remain as a daydream rather than run the risk that the reality will not live up to your expectations & your daydream will be ruined. We’ve all been there.
Many of us have been at workplace ‘goodbye’ presentations where somebody is leaving to go travelling, start a new job or business, have a baby etc. Many of us return to our work station with a mixture of feelings; some are envious of their former colleague’s new challenges, some are relieved that they have the security of their daily routine to keep their lives ordered & unchanging.
Things are happening every day that are changing our lives; some for the good, some not so good. It sometimes feels that we don’t have the control over our lives that we used to, as change is thrust upon us at such a rate of knots. No sooner have we just got to grips with one piece of new technology in our homes than it has been out-moded & we have to go out & buy a new one because our old one is now not compatible with anything else.
When we are younger most of us are seeking change in order to experience new challenges & possible thrills & adventures. Generally when we get older, change becomes less welcome. However, as the cliché goes; ‘change is inevitable’ & never more so than in today’s fast paced, high technology world.
Are you up for changing your life?Honestly?
Whether change excites us or scares us, if it is on the path to where you want to be, then we need to embrace it. If the thought of making a radical change in your life (& taking you & your loved ones out of the comfort zone) makes you a little scared, then that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it or that you’re not the right person for the job. It simply means that you’re human!
The best way to tackle change is to jump in with both feet!
If you’re fortunate enough to live long enough, things are going to change anyway so, as the ever pioneering Denise McCluggage said; ‘Change is the only constant. Hanging on is the only sin.’
