As a work at home mum, you may not know it, but you’re probably the envy of all the other mums out there you know who want to generate an income from home. Did you ever consider that?
I know there have been many times when I have had play dates for my daughter and met with other mums for coffee and the topic of work and career has come up.
“I’d love to go back to work, but I just don’t think I want to be away from my child right now,” said one I can recall a short time ago. “I’d miss out on those all-important milestones like the first smiles, the first steps, the first words…and then there’s the spiralling cost of child care that would almost make a return to work not worth it financially.”
You’ve probably heard that one as well from friends you know who are also mums.
But contrary to what many may think…
…Mums can take steps today to follow their business dreams and still be a SAHM too
It does not matter either if they have never had any business experience whatsoever. Setting yourself up to work from home doesn’t necessarily mean having to deck a home office out, hire accountants and bookkeepers, outsource work to other people and go through exhaustive procedures to make it all legal.
Starting a business for some may mean setting up say as a Lorraine Lea Linen consultant or Avon Consultant and working to that business model. For others, it may mean finding a job that allows them to work from home. Make sure you check out the Business Ideas section here.
And for others, it can mean setting up a brand new business from scratch and doing a few things – things that sound complicated but aren’t – such as getting an ABN, registering a business name, opening a bank account, etc. Check out Honcho here, were all of that is done for you, it has never been easier.
You don’t need to be a business consultant with years of experience behind you to inspire your friends to follow their business dream. In fact, just by doing what you are now and running your own business, you’ll be doing so much to inspire already.
When the topic of your business comes up in conversation and your friend expresses an interest in wanting to do their own thing, start talking about it! Ask them what they would like to do, and ask them what’s stopping them from making it happen. They can make it happen!
At the end of the day, mums are only limited by their imagination!
There is always an answer to every question, even though the question may seem so impossible to answer. If your friend is interested in starting a business from home, get her to write down all the things she sees as obstacles in her way. Get her to brainstorm questions, from a mindset of the answers being out there for her, as opposed to it being too hard and overwhelming.
Your friends really can make their business goals happen, no matter their background or experience.
It’s simply a matter of wanting to do it and being willing to learn how. Good Luck
