Australia’s businesses may talk the talk but they aren’t walking the walk when it comes to flexible working, according to a new whitepaper released today.
The Citrix ‘State of the Flexible Nation’ report has found the majority of Australia’s office workers want the option to work flexibly but are instead forced through hourly commutes and a day of being tied to the desk.
The research, which surveyed a cross section of Australian businesses from large enterprises to SMEs, found workers want to take advantage of technology to work from the location and time of their choice but employers often didn’t understand the benefits.
The report also found there were significant economic savings on the table, concluding that people who commute but prefer to work from home could save up to $108.7 million per week in travelling costs, and cut their commuting time by a collective 8.2 million hours a week, if allowed to work flexibly.
