The Story Behind WAHM

Leah Gibbs is living proof that life’s major challenges can also bring the biggest blessings.

Her path led her from being a successful business professional, to a frustrated, tired and stressed-out mum looking for the type of work which allowed her to stay home with her daughter while still making her mark in the professional world.

Now, Leah is an entrepreneur, balancing a happy home while establishing the successful and ever-growing Work At Home Mums network and discovering a passion she never knew she had.

When Leah was having her first baby, she had a definite strategy when it came to motherhood, just like she always had when it came to her career and the rest of her life. However, as any mum will attest, sometimes baby has other ideas.

A traumatic birthing experience, long recovery, bout of postnatal depression and, of course, falling head-over-heels in love with her baby girl led her to a complete philosophy turn-around.

One thing she was sure of was that she had no desire to go back to full-time work outside the home, but financial realities meant working was a must.

“My whole perspective on career and life changed once I had a baby, and I wanted to spend lots of quality time with my daughter, like many mothers out there,” she said.

“I wanted and needed a job that could fit around my family commitments, so I began researching work from home options.”

As she discovered, this was no mean feat, and the frustration she experienced in her search for legitimate, worthwhile work from home opportunities eventually led her to establishing Work At Home Mums.

“I want to help other mothers find a genuine home-based job, work-life balance and a supportive network to help them,” she said.

“It was clear that the need for flexible work was widespread, which then led me to develop another website, Lifestyle Careers - there is so much talent out there, and so much demand, but there seemed to be nothing much to connect the supply with the demand.”

Now, Leah adores working from home and has plenty of time to be there for her partner and play with her daughter too.

“She is growing up ever so quickly, she is cute, clever, and naughty and I love her so much it hurts. I did not want to miss out on special moments, and I wanted her to be close to me, safe and secure,” she said.

“It is challenging, but I love it and I want other mums to have this option too.

“My hope, and my long term goal, is to help other mums connect with family-friendly employers who offer flexible work conditions and a good work-life balance.

“I want to help make a difference, empowering mothers to dream, believe, act and achieve, by supplying them with the tools and resources they need to assist them in making their career and business dreams into realities.”
